So the fact that I make very little money for a whole lot of work means I can treat myself right?

....kidding ;) My reward for hard work is that hopefully some day I'll have a career that I love, that pays me, and that I'll be damn good at what I do. It helps that I don't hate my work.

So, so very true. And, when I work extra-hard at work, my employer rewards me with a raise or a bonus. So, no need to go blow all my hard-earned money just because I work for a living....so do we all, and it's for income!

Are you still updating Everyday Minimalist daily? I have not got a new one on the page since Feb 15th. Not sure if you aren't updating or my feed is messed up.

Thanks!

Hey, in Toronto and Montreal I've seen firsthand that it's in the girl's court to put herself out there. Guys here are used to type A women!

Tell your sister to suck it up and be direct: ask him point blank where he sees this going so she's not wasting any more of her time. I've seen all sorts of results with this approach, all of them for the best.

My parents were very poor with my siblings, and by the time I came around they were getting quite wealthy. I wasn't taught any lessons in frugality or anything like that - they never spent a ton (besides school) but didn't scrimp either. The biggest lesson I was taught was when I was a freshman in college and my dad compiled a list of everything he spent on my brother (from birth through college) and threw it at him to show my brother how much he owed my dad for life. They had gotten into a fight (not over money), and it became very apparent then to me that money was a method of control.
It taught me to never count on my family for money because it would be used as a point of control and abuse in the future. Who has the money, has the control. I wish I could look at all the monetary things I was given as a child as a positive, but all I see is something that has been thrown in my face. It's why I'm very fond of personal finance, because I don't want to be in this predicament again.

When redeeming any kind of points, I always try to get the best bang for my buck. Recently I redeemed my Airmiles, and was tempted by the Magic Bulllit (yes, I have one and use it every morning for my smoothie breakfast), mine is aging and will need to be replaced "soon".

Instead, I got grocery gift cards, by the time I coupon and watch for sales etc, I'm sure I'll get at least $30 from that $20 gift card, and I'll wait for the blender to come on sale, using the cash I saved to pay for it. Points wise, the blender was 850, and the $20 gift card was 150(?), when the blender comes on sale, it will cost about $25.
