Win a pair of tickets to Hansel & Gretel, the Opera in NYC

Just in time for the holiday season....

_MG_6775

Update: Sorry, I have only one pair of tickets. Email miscommunication!

Whaddya got?!: One pair of tickets HANSEL AND GRETEL!

(Can we say perfect holiday treat or what?)

Dates: December 17th! (confirmed)

Where: The Metropolitan Opera

About Hansel & Gretel

Approximate running time 2 hrs. 15 min.

Haunting, charming, and a little wicked, the Met’s production returns as the season’s special holiday presentation for families and the young at heart.

Miah Persson and Angelika Kirchschlager are the lost siblings. Philip Langridge reprises his outlandish portrayal of the Witch in Humperdinck’s take on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

Sung in English and conducted by Fabio Luisi.

Why I love Hansel & Gretel

They find a house made out of gingerbread in the middle of the woods with tons of candy decorations, and proceed to eat it like gluttonous little pigs.

I think if I were The Witch, and I saw a bunch of brats eating this gorgeous, sweet, candy-covered house I spent years and money into, not to mention having dealt with those contractors who kept asking for a spot of tea every hour and drinking it with pieces of my house……

……I’d be pretty angry too :P

Enough said.

About The Metropolitan Opera

usa_nyc_metropolitanopera_6

The Metropolitan Opera, now in its 126th season, is a vibrant home for the most creative and talented artists, including singers, conductors, composers, orchestra musicians, stage directors, designers, visual artists, choreographers, and dancers from around the world.

Known as the venue for the world’s greatest voices, the Met has been under the musical direction of James Levine since 1976. Levine is credited with having created one of opera’s finest orchestras and choruses.

You could even dress up like Carrie Bradshaw to go see it.

OMG!

How to Enter

FYI: Separate comment means you type in another comment so I can count it as a separate entry.

2 Entries = Go visit The Metropolitan Opera website and click on the Philip Langridge feature on the right.

Come back, and leave me a comment about why Langridge thinks this production has a darker feel than is common for most fairy tales.

1 Entry = Leave a separate comment and tell me why you personally want to see Hansel & Gretel and who you’d take =

1 Entry = Add my blog to your RSS Feed (RSS Feed URL here), and leave me a separate comment letting me you did so

Note: To do this, the most commonly used one is to get a Gmail account and you will automatically have a Google Reader account.

You can add my RSS Feed there.

If not, there are a ton of other RSS Readers out there!

1 Entry = Blog about it, and leave a separate comment with the link to that blog post = 1 Entry

BONUS ENTRIES! = 1 Entry

Follow me on Twitter @brokeinthecity and tweet ONCE with this message:

@brokeinthecity is giving away a pair of tickets to go see Hansel & Gretel for FREE at The Met! #hanselandgretel #themet

And for every re-tweet (RT) you manage to get with your name in the tweet, it’s another entry. ;)

P.S. Sorry, I had to protect my tweets.

I kept getting spam that showed me pictures of things I did not want to see in their profile image.

It was kind of disgusting, but mostly annoying.

P.P.S. I still want to make that stupid dog shut up.

In a civilized way of course. If only I could….. do something.

    2) I've always been a fan of this fairy tale. You should see the hand-painted enamel tree ornaments I bought in Germany – a really cool representation of the candy house with the witch and everything.

I'd take my mother. She really wants to see Christmas productions this year and could not talk me into the Radio City Christmas Spectacular (she's going with a friend instead).

Also, I really really want to go to the opera. I have never been because ticket prices are incompatible with my graduate student budget. I would take my boyfriend Leo. I love the story of Hansel and Gretel; it is one of the richest fairy tales.

Oh and the reason why I'm extremely interested in going is because I randomly decided this morning that I want to go to NYC. I got out of bed and purchased my roundtrip tickets. Then I come here and find you're giving away free tickets to a NYC event. I thought it was too good to be true. It's as if I'm destined to go. Thought it was pretty coincidental :)
I'd be taking an aunt that lives in NYC. I called her and told her I'd be heading over for the holidays and she told me she was shocked and felt bad that she couldn't plan ahead. Thought it would be a great opportunity so she won't feel so bad!

I'm flying in from Texas, so it'll be an adventure.

I would love to win these tickets. I would love to take one of my BFFs who lives in NYC. We both have a serious love for plays and musicals and go see one whenever we can afford to. I would also love to take her because I want to ask her to be a bridesmaid in my wedding, and I think this would be the perfect treat! Thanks for the great giveaway!

Sorry to hear you're still having dog problems… What does the neighbors think? Maybe you should organize a group and talk to the owner of the dog (yuck, I hate confrontations like that, but I've done it before…)

    Good luck with the dog!

Nice giveaway! I haven't went to a Christmas play in quite a while. :(

oh don’t worry. We have something planned for the neighbour. And her little dog too *cackles*

Actually, we’ve already written to the building admin, and they said: “*sniff* you’re the only ones complaining”

To which we are going to reply with a list of signatures.

Google Reader rocks. Well, RSS Feed readers rock in general. But I find Google Reader to be the best.

I even tried downloading other programs, but Google just.. makes sense. I hate extra programs/things.

    Enjoy!

I personally want to see Hansel and Gretel because I love opera but rarely go because the prices are absolutely ruinous if you see it on a regular basis. I'll take my SO, who also loves opera and is currently unemployed. It'll cheer him right the heck up, especially if he knows I didn't spend any money for us to get there.

i would personally love to see hansel & gretel because i've never been to an opera… or even the Met! i've been so busy lately with all of my family events and preparing for my only brother's first child… i think it'd be a great way to relax and spend a day actually enjoying myself instead of running errands for everyone else. i'm tired and exhausted… i just need to get away. i'd take my boyfriend… cheesy? maybe. but i know he'd let me have my one day to shine and have fun. he's amazing like that. ;-)

    Hey FB!
I'd love tickets, because I've never been to the Met. I'd take Chad, of course, because I love him, but also because he grew up in NY and would know which subways to take to get there. Also, his parents live just outside the city, so we'd have somewhere to stay. :-)

I did like to see Hansel and Gretel, one of the few books I remember from childhood in India. My mom would love to see it since she is the child among us but since that's not possible, I would like to take my partner with me

Such as going to The Met page, and leaving me a comment re: Philip’s take on the play.
