What the hell is PriceYeti?
PriceYeti is stupidly simple.
It isn’t another price comparison shopping site, it’s the next step.
You enter in the URL of the item you are stalking tracking online, and check the details that pop up.
Then when the price drops (if ever), you get an email.
How it works
First I typed in a link:
Second, I verified the details:
Third, they confirmed it
Then I got an email with a link to my dashboard
It used the first part before the “@” in my email (“me”)
Then I changed the name from “me” to “fabulouslybroke” and now I have a price list to watch
How I found out about it
They contacted me and told me about the site.
I ALWAYS check out everything people send me (unless you’re a spammer, in which case, you suck), and then I either reply if I am interested, or I delete/archive the email.
And no, I am not getting any kind of compensation for this post.
I just think it’s cool and best of all: SIMPLE.
So I emailed them back and grabbed a little info on the startup:
Background on the guys that started PriceYeti
There’s four of us startup guys involved. Read about them here.
We all graduated from the University of Washington and have backgrounds with companies like Google, Microsoft, Zillow, and Zaaz.
We’ve since left the corporate world and immersed ourselves in the culture of basement-coding and chicken nuggets.
FB: Typical
Sounds like me and my friends in college. Mmm Jane’s chicken nuggets.
PriceYeti is our baby and I’ve quickly fallen in love with it for its simplicity and usefulness.
When the idea was first being conceived, we talked to a lot of people about their online shopping experience.
We quickly found that many of them are search gurus and there are plenty of sites that do search and comparison shopping well.
But what’s desperately missing for a lot of those people is the step right after that.
These online shoppers tend to bookmark their items and keep a close eye on them if they’re not ready to buy the product yet.
FB: This is totally what I do.
PriceYeti lets you manage these items across all your online retail sites and notifies you when the price drops.
We’ve always been a very feedback-oriented team and we iterate very quickly on our user’s requests.
Feel free to get in touch with us at any time — we’re on startup time so we work from something like 9am to 3am
. Our goal is to make a useful product that’s also easy and fun to use.
FB: You hear that? You can bother them any time you want.
In fact, they welcome it.
Give it a shot.
So if you’re doing some holiday shopping comparison online, go ahead and use the site, and let them know what you think.
I think the site is simple to use, a cool “common sense slapped me in the face” kind of concept.
I look forward to seeing them grow and IPO for millions, whereby which they will kick me back a little bit of love for having supported them all this time.
