I don't mind independent bloggers using my photographs, but a link and attribution would be nice. http://www.flickr.com/photos/visus/62670667

This is an excellent post! I too was teased horribly in Junior high for all teh reasons you were. I even had people throw food at me while jeering and chanting. I turned into a swan eventually and realized how cruel and mindless to tease someone based on looks. I too turned inward and read, became a jeweler, studied economics and philosophy for fun and realized how insipid and sad my tormentors were.

I march to my own drum and never give others permission to make me feel bad or good. It is all in my own hands. I recently broke up with a guy who tried to make me feel bad about gaining a few pounds when his life is really a hot mess from fianances, to his children to his lack of options. I see his misguided attempts as his own low self esteem. As for me I'm always going to be okay because I say so.

I really found this post to be helpful. I was teased a lot as a kid and I never understood why. I thought I was just a loser and there was just a defect in me.IIt takes time to come to terms with such things. I am personally afraid of people. Its a bummer but its something that I will have to work out. I am only 19.

I am different then the rest of the crowd but I have been extremely successful--being driven by my insecurities, I made it into one of the top 13 undergrad business schools in the country, I play on the u20 WNT for soccer and for rugby, I have been part of a winning world cup team and much more. I am very proud of my accomplishments but you know It would be nice to not be haunted by those awful memories as a young kid because it affects the way I interact significantly with people today, and not necessarily for the better. But I think reading this article has given me a new perspective on my situation so I can work through it.

Thank you :)
