Fabulously Broke in the City

Am having a great time…!

Found a Target. Enough said.

I was so hog wild crazy in there, BF was surprised (I normally don’t shop even on vacation because I find it expensive with the conversion rate)

But Target? Tar-jay? Love the store!!!!

I also read most of the comments, especially the one about that girl that asked for money for her wedding. I responded to some comments on there, especially the ones telling me that I was mean or ignorant for writing about immigrants.

If you read the post carefully you’d see that it was a BIG FAT COMPLIMENT to the people of North America. ALL OF YOUR FAMILIES came over here in some way or another because the only real natives of the continent are the Native Americans who were here before all of y’all.

So it was a huge compliment that everyone who came over (your momma’s momma, etc) worked hard and basically built American from nothing. I find it incredible, the spirit of what people can do, driven by the American Dream to get to where they want to go and to make a better life for their family.

And that faux immigrant comment? That was a sarcastic joke. Remember? Wicked sense of humour? Never mind. Everyone’s too PC these days.

I also want to respond to the comment by one of the readers who says “how is this any different from you doing sponsored posts?”

I am doing this as a general response, and to stand up for all the bloggers out there who put a lot of work into a blog.

I’d like to have you imagine what it takes to build a blog, work on a given template for hours going through lines of code to make sure the images look correct, and show up well on people’s browsers, as well as organize everything so that ads don’t make people angry.

All it is, is compensation for real work — because I put a lot of real work into the blog in terms of content. I don’t get paid a lot, or anything for that matter depending on who clicks on what links.

I just do a couple of sponsored posts here or there, and am trying to get text links or Adsense working, ybut think about the hours that goes into maintaining a blog compared to the money that is actually made off the blog.

I also use that money to pay for hosting fees so that I can start expanding off Blogger as it does not have enough space to handle all the images and things that I want to put on the page.

And this blog is 100% just for ME, I write for myself, but it’s disheartening to hear that you are comparing asking for handouts for a big party, versus running what I think is a good blog.

I don’t write JUST about my personal life, that’s one aspect to the blog. I do lots of posts about Career, Life, Saving, etc.. (see the tabs above on all the posts I’ve written in 2 years that I find relevant/interesting) and most of my posts that are written 4 months in ADVANCE have actual content and aren’t just all about shopping or what I have in assets or liabilities. I really try to keep it balanced between myself and general helpful content on everything I can think of, including reviews… and….

ALL WITHOUT THE HOPE OF EARNING A REAL SALARY.

The only blogs that earn real money are big ones like The Simple Dollar, or J.D.’s Get Rich Slowly, or Ramit’s I Will Teach You To Be Rich.

Simple blog like mine, and most of the PF blogs do not make any cash other than what we can scrape off sponsored posts and a couple of $0.01 clicks here and there.

I started the blog, not to make money, but to get out of debt and to have a little fun blogging here and there.

If I make $25-$50/month (less now that I don’t do as many sponsored posts), I am thrilled!

So if you’re telling me, that making money off the blog with a bit of advertising and only making maybe $25-$50/month is comparable to that girl that is asking for handouts to pay for a big party, then maybe I should just do that.

Ask for money for my pretty blog, delete all of my scheduled posts that I worked hours on and just post random crap. Or better yet, scrape content from other blogs and pass it off as my own.

Or maybe like one of the readers said, buy a pet bunny and threaten to eat it if I don’t get $2000/month in donations to keep it alive.

This will most certainly not be everyone’s cup of humour, but here is a memorable excerpt:

In my circus days, a young woman once offered me a tidy sum for the pantaloons I wore during my act.

“What do you want them for?” I asked, referring to the pantaloons.

“They’re for my boyfriend,” she answered.

“Won’t he be worried that people will laugh at him? They’re not really the latest thing in men’s fashion.”

“He’ll only put them on when we’re alone. I’ll cut a slit in the crotch so he can shag me while he’s wearing them.”

“Here is the name of a theatrical supplier who sells the pantaloons,” I said, handing her a chit. “I trust this will be adequate for your purpose. I cannot involve myself in human mating practices, however indirectly.”

“But they won’t smell the same!” she protested.

Pure gold.

There are five people writing for this, so the posts are always a bit different which is something that’s quite interesting. They’re also hilarious posts that always make me giggle. Mostly about life observations.

She is a wonderful PF (Personal Finance) blogger who writes clear, concise posts that don’t ramble on too long (unlike moi, at some times) and the advice is always spot on.

If you are looking for a refreshing, fun, SIMPLE makeup blog that doesn’t try to sell you sponsored items all the time, or makeup items that work well, but costs $50 for a little tube, Rae is the girl to go to.

Rae is all about finding the best deal in beauty but never compromising on quality.

She gives great advice (I asked her for recommendations on what concealers and lip glosses to look at, and she wrote me a freaking novel!), she is friendly, and her tutorials are excellent, as well as her reviews of all the makeup she comes across (mostly from drug stores).
