Fabulously Broke in the City

Yep, here’s the plan

I am formulating a way so I can sneak back to Toronto early May, late April to soak in more of Toronto before I leave the country and will have to fly hours to get there.

Sure, I’m not leaving any time soon for Dallas, TX — I reckon I am a year or so away from that seeing how all the sponsored visas are frozen for any new foreigners.

I am also travelling back (by plane!! because of BF) in June for a wedding, but we’re not staying past 1 night (he may have work, and hopefully I’ll be on a contract by then).

So why do I want to go back to Toronto?

I miss my friends. It’s not the same calling them. It’s not the same Facebooking them, and I kind of really miss Toronto’s air and energy (which is considerably less than NYC).

Plus I feel like I haven’t had TIME in Toronto the last few times I went back even though I did, I just didn’t cram everything I wanted to do in a short amount of time, nor did I stay long enough.

So I’m debating between travelling again or just sitting tight until June.

Flimsy reasons why I want to go back:

  • Train ticket will only cost $150, no extra hidden costs except using my tokens to get around
  • I can set up my entire wedding outfit there so I don’t have to travel with it
  • Also, pick out my shoes & jewelery
  • See my friends
  • Get things done like donating & cleaning my room
  • Go for a wee shopping trip! (I feel like if I don’t visit these independent shops I’ve had on my list for years, I never will)

Solid reasons why I shouldn’t go back:

  • Am going there in late May, early June spending $300 on a flight ticket and another $50 on the hotel
  • I have 5-6 hours before the actual ceremony (which is close to where my parents live) to get my stuff ready and pick out everything
  • I’m not leaving for the U.S. yet. No real rush.
  • I will kind of see my friends at the wedding
  • I’ve been travelling too much as is
  • Will end up spending more, I always do, if I visit special shops

Based on the above, I sort of talked myself out of going back, reading the pros and cons.

Can’t justify the trip, and not because I can’t afford it, but because I think I may want to save up that kind of cash for a rainy day, and BF and I are thinking of visiting Houston near the end of this year (we’ve almost got one foot across the border!).

I should really wait until the summer or end of summer so that I can also get my hair cut, my teeth cleaned, eyes checked and stay 2 weeks to really GTD. (Get things done)

Oh, but delayed gratification is such a hard pill to swallow… :)

April 2009 Budget

Totally unrelated note

I hate April Fools’ Day, so I am not participating in that crap.

I don’t know whether to believe what people say, don’t say.. whatever.

I don’t want to deal with that BS of figuring out who is trying to prank me or not. LOL

I’m getting too old for that.

FB’s April Budget

I’m done with travelling until June, so the months of April & May should be pretty low-key.

I am considering going back to Toronto just for May to go to my friend’s wedding shower but I am not sure if I can make it. I wouldn’t be renting a car, so the trip would cost around $200 for the travelling, and then possibly another $150 for eating and buying my friend a gift.

I just don’t want to sit in a train for 5 hours. It’s exhausting. But I do want to get my teeth cleaned again, the last dentist was awful.

Anyway, here’s my April Budget:

I have about $200-$300 as lax fun money, but I’ll probably end up saving it just out of sheer exhaustion from NYC.

I don’t even want to look at shoes, or think about shopping right now. I am totally pooped out, my limbs hurt and I am just plain tired.

Online shopping however, may be my downfall…

I also did some thinking last night, and I think I may just wear a pair of black shoes I have in my closet. Where I MAY spend my money is on a big chunky bracelet or something.
