America’s Next Top Model – First Impressions of the new Cycle

As the title says!

I FINALLY, FINALLY GOT TO WATCH THE EPISODE after a week of waiting!

Skip the post if you don’t watch the show.

This is a play-by-play of my reactions as I am watching it.

Oh and don’t judge me. I love this kind of reality TV and I am not ashamed to admit it.

I am not into The Bachelor, or Dancing with the Stars, but I am into ANTM (America’s Next Top Model), Top Chef and Hell’s Kitchen.

This is my crack.

Some of them are really skinny, but that’s to be expected.

It is supposed to be modeling after all.

Still.

I kind of want to stuff a delicious juicy bacon-laden sandwich in their hands and make them eat the whole thing.

I agree with FB. These girls need a big ol’ fat cheeseburger once in a damn while.

The girl who likes blood sorta creeps me out

“Hi! I’m such an awkwardly cute, Japanese anime-like character.”

NOT!!!!!!!!

“I’m actually really into blood and jealous when girls get nosebleeds because I think it’s really beautiful to see blood gushing out of their nose.”

“Chile, WHAT THE F*CK are you smoking?

This is my model-y “WTF” face by the way.

Workkkkkk it.”

“Tyra, let me be totally clear with you.

No where, I repeat, NO WHERE in my contract does it say I am ever agreeing to clean up any blood on set, mm’kay?”

The Purdy Puerto Rican

“I have nevah been called oogly in my life.”

“Girl, let’s get one thing straight. You jus’ have never been called ugly to yo FACE”

“What you say? You wanna GO a round, cabron?? My skin is perfection.

I am liking this girl

“My body is a temple, and sometimes.. my temple wants a cheesecake!”

Right on.

She also dated a racing car superstar – Dale E. Jr. but didn’t want to be known as “Dale E. Jr’s Girlfriend”.

By the way, Oreo is totally coming up with some new snacks!? What’s with this Cakester thing?

And those little sipper roll-up things with icing sugar inside that you use to drink milk with then eat the straw after??

The Asians have been doing that for years for all little Asian kids, and they went and punked the recipe.

This one “Fo” (short for Felicia) is cute as button.

She’s a mix of Mexican & Black. SUPER cute as a button. Am so glad she made it into the house.

Nom.

Her name makes me think of “PHO” as in “Fuh“, the Vietnamese noodle dish.

It is not pronounced “FOH” or “FAH”, it’s “FUH”, as per esteemed Guest Judge Chef Ming Tsai on Top Chef.

This is how we fight in the hood, y’all

First, we insult each others’ feet

EDIT: BF watched that part with me and asked me “FB, what are these ‘ass corns‘ she’s talking about“?

Oh. Gotta love a man who’s first language is not English.

Then we put our hands in each others’ faces without actually touching each other.

Seriously?

Toes?

Hands in the face?

Hemophiliac up there was waiting for some BLOOD, bitches!

“YEAHHHHHHHHH!”

That’s all I have. I’m happy with all of them in the house except for that bitchy Sandra.

Why is there always a bitch on these things? And why is she (almost) always a black girl?

That is total stereotyping and as Tyra has said before: “I don’t want to cast another black bitch”…

So far, so good. I think the series is going to be fun (as usual).

As usual I have a quick commentary about one thing I generally dislike about this show other than Tyra’s over acting (okay, I feel the tomatoes being lined up in anticipation) and my gripe is that they put girls on there that just can NOT work in the fashion industry.

They don’t even have a shred of a shred of a chance.

Karl Lagerfeld once said that these ANTM girls (no matter how tall and pretty) would never walk in a top fashion show like Chanel or become his muse the way Coco Rocha has. They just… won’t ever reach those pinnacles, as per the Kaiser.

Models (no matter how perfect they seem to us), already get criticized for the SLIGHTEST things, like bad skin, a slightly wonky leg, their weight being 120 pounds instead of 110 pounds, their hair being too curly, or not curly enough, their breasts being too small or too big, or not round enough.

It goes on and on and on and they’ve all developed thick skins as a result of it and these different-from-the-industry-norm girls are quite sensitive for the most part (which is understandable).

So how do these girls with physical disabilities expect to book high fashion jobs? If they don’t expect to be a top super model or anything but a unique model, then by all means, strut away.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that they’re giving hope and are inspirations to others.. but it’s false hope and to me, it’s JUST as bad as not having any hope at all.

I don’t have the answer, but the fashion & entertainment business is just really fickle and picky, no matter how good and charitable we want to all be.

Those are just the facts of life.

    LOL..
I mainly had the same reactions as you did. Especially Fo… I thought, “Mmm. Viet noodle with beef would be good for dinner.”

I don’t see the slightest bit of cute in the anime chick…. and the girl who claims she “poses good” makes me nauseous. She doesn’t even look human… not even a model version of human. Tyra has some BAD picks this year…

Love love love this show. Fo and London are my favourites, for sure. Knowing that there’s a new episode tonight has gotten me through today!

I love Hell’s Kitchen…Can you get it online anywhere? I miss Gordon Ramsey’s effing…well, everything!

And I’m looking forward to trying out your budget. I got it the other day, but have barely had a chance to even look at it, never mind USE it yet! :)

Northern Living: Let me know how it works out for you!

Rylee: The girl is.. interesting that’s for sure, but I thought her photo was weak except for the posing and she just creeps me out.

I am not into blood or vampires, so.. you know.

Did you see the commercial that says they’re currently casting girls UNDER 5’7″ for next season?? I can’t wait to see girls who are more similar to me (although probably still weigh 20-30 pounds less…).

If everyone says the girls on the show now can’t really be top models, I can’t wait to see what they say about the short ones!

I stopped watching this show like 2 cycles ago. It isn’t the same show as it used to be.

I SAW! 5’7″ models allowed? WTF? :) Hello, Kate Moss..

I’m really in it for the bitchiness. I do hate some of the shoots they do like the ones around death (wtf?).. but I just like the personalities on the show.

This is why I don’t understand why anyone would want to be a model. I’m certainly not thin-skinned, but still…

Also, the first three pictures of the new contestants frightened me. OMG, those girls need to eat. I understand that people come in all shapes and sizes (I’m tall and skinny myself), but they just look so unhealthy.

Being in Australia and not paying to have Foxtel – I don’t get to see the American version or the Australian version for that matter. (Occassionally an older cycle of the American version is shown on free-to-air TV). In Australia though, I read that they were getting much stricter with the height requirement. I just need to keep waiting – maybe eventually I will qualify for the American series! (I’m 4’11″!)

Come on girls, wake up from all these tyra banks stuff .

ANTM IS SO over the top. The real fashion business isn’t like that.
Kate Moss might be shorter than 5’7 , but she is 1 in a million.
Behind her success, how many millions of models there have failed.

And Tyra herself is a model not a photographer, nor a designer.
I wonder what rights she has to judge all these girls .And since she has hosted the show , all these fangirl religiously worship the show, assuming the entire fashion industry is with similiar flows ,who end up to be disappointed.

Tyra I thank you for giving these girls hopes, and dreams. But we all know your show produce your own TOP models, not a supermodel.

What Karl says is very true ,Modelling chooses you, You dont choose them. ANTM has never produce any supermodel. If they have, they would be on the Cover of Vogues now , Anna Wintour will not be bothered to even feature them on the trash ads behind.

If you want to have a chance to be successful, dont ever join these shows ,after you get on the show you can be assured that you will never book a high fashion runway show.

To me, it's fun :) I do agree that they don't choose girls from that show to be real high end models, but it's still their dream

I just stumbled upon your post while looking for stuff on Tyra's newest comment and found it interesting. I, too, can't believet the unbelievably small sizes of these girls, but even more so, the even smaller size they are supposed to be. The girl who was known as Isabella on this cycle (3rd girl in your skinny list, blue swimsuit) signed with an agency in Chicago and later left because they told her she needed to lose weight…. It'sjust absurd.
