This is from Hertz.
The cost of the car per day is less than the cost of renting a GPS for a single day!
At that price of $63 bucks to rent a GPS unit, I might as well buy the damn thing!!! $63 for 4 days is ridiculous. That’s $15.75 a day, assuming it is NOT a fixed price of $63 for the entire rental contract.
GPS units are around $150 – $200 now. It’d be worth it to buy one if I was going to stay in this country. Damn!!
Bloodsucking leeches.
- Cost of a (Second-Hand) FB Mobile

- Oooooo Apple you gon’ make me get bitchy up in here!
- Long distance loves + the cost of calling

I think they are charging $63.96 ’cause the GPS is branded as a “Neverlost Navigational System.” You end up paying more for a better name, and more letters.
(and they are smoking crack)

Can’t you just download new maps for the GPS when you move, why not pick one up now!

I rented a car for a week in AZ and was hit up with this Navigation expense, also a child’s car seat.
The car was supposed to be $38 per day. The week cost me $780.00. I nearly died.
The navigation was over $60 a day and the child’s car seat also a small fortune. Wont ever be renting either again.

Most of the GPSes work in the US & Canada. I know my Garmin does, but I think the others do too.

I bought a Garmin Nuvi GPS this summer while I was living in the states, and it was such a great purchase. It works incredibly well in both Canada and the US. I’d say go for it!

GPS units are worth it in most countries. And if you get one with a memory card input, you can get US maps and Canadian maps easy! But the bigger question is why did you rent one in the first place? There are too many great turn by turn directions websites that you can print out, read for a bit before you go, and get a visual in your head of where you need to go before you start driving. Did you really need to spend that money?

That is shocking! My dad worked for Hertz for many years before moving to Discount, and the cars have had Neverlost systems for about 10 years, I think. They had GPS when it was unheard of, so maybe they overpaid way back when and they’re still paying them off?

Darling Fab, yes, buy one. I bought a Garmin Nuvi 350 on eBay for $147 US ($228 list, $178 on Amazon). It’s absolutely perfect. And the maps work for both US and Canada. I can’t picture living without mine now. No matter where I am, I can find food, shops, dry cleaners, Starbucks…

That’s what it was like when we rented a car. The GPS per day rate was almost as much as the car’s per day rate. We went without and turns out Palm Springs is amazingly easy to get around! These days GPS’s have come down in price, increased in availability, and are even on cell phones.

P.S. Keep checking the rates as they can drop shortly before you need it. On a whim I checked the rates and they had fallen, cutting the bill almost in half.

That is ABSURD!
I’m a travel agent and book Hertz and other car companies all the time and it’s usually about $10-$12 per day for Neverlost.
For a rental of a few days it can REALLY get pricey
