Beards on Men

Just a quick question to you out there:

What do you think of beards on guys?

I’m not talking Grimswold Grizzly kind of beard, but a sort of trimmed, well-kept, beard that doesn’t get out of control and isn’t so sparse you think he’s just reached puberty.

I’ve only ever been with guys who were clean shaven……

But I can imagine the feeling of petting their beard to be kind of cool :) Since women (I hope) don’t grow beards! Just like how men like to touch breasts because they don’t have any of their own :P

Mr. Man had a goatee when I met him, and grew it into one of those long, kind punk billy goat beards for a long time. It looked good on him, balanced out the face like makeup for men, but I like him even better smooth shaven.

It’s very harsh on the face when it’s short, like when he doesn’t shave for 4 days. It gets less irritating to the skin as it gets longer.

I actually developed dermatitis (which now migrates around my face independently) from his not shaving regularly. In his defense, he has sensitive skin too & it gets really red & irritated if he tries to shave every day.

… the novelty of petting the beard does wear off, but it makes a great handle if they’re silly enough to grow it long!

There’s a guy I work with that has a beard, and he’s always talking about how certain types of chicks are into it. So, to prove his point that girls like it, he’ll randomly ask some of the ones that come into the store what they think about it. Kind of funny to see some of the reactions, since it’s always a random question.

Personally, I like it when my husband has a little bit of a goatee, but he can’t always keep it because of the military thing. Not sure I’m a full beard kind of girl, though.

This post made me laugh. My fiance always has a stubble covered face. He hates to shave. He has a goatee and soul patch that he lets grow kind of thick, but I like them. I only hate his mustache stubble because that scratches me. I think a little face stubble is way sexy, but Grizzly Adams is a no no.

I prefer a clean shaven man but it depends on the type and length of the facial hair first. I don’t mind a little scruff that’s hot but it has to be maintained. I hate goat tees and really long facial hair, that just looks lazy.

For example, I hate my brother’s facial hair. The hair on his head is brown but his facial hair is red. He looks ridiculous but his wife likes it so she’s not helping my cause. I told him to “just for men” that.

I love beards. They’re definitely sexy. That is, until you go in to kiss. Then they’re not as cool anymore.

I’m not a big fan of goatees or mustaches. They just scream high-maintenance, and they’re totally 10+ years ago. I can relate to full beards more because I’m generally too lazy to shave my legs, so I see a kindred in a guy whose too lazy to shave his face.

A bit of stubble/scruff is perfectly ok with me, something to make an otherwise perfectly clean-cut guy a little rough-and-tumble looking.

But a full on beard, whether it’s lumberjack-style or neatly maintained turns me off. Neatly maintained more so; there’s something really creepy about perfectly trimmed short-cut beard.

an aside: FB — just stumbled on your blog as a fellow Torontonian, did my undergrad at Queen’s. It was awesome to find a young, female Canadian pf blogger.

another aside: The Christian Lacroix and Elie Saab F08 collections both made me SWOON, too. If I could, that brush-stroked strapless dress on Martha Streck would be mine. I’ve never seen colour and texture work so well.

I don’t mind the way they look but they scratch my face and irritate my skin.

I hate ‘em. The whole rough-boy-day-old-stubble thing can be hot (Jensen Ackles, anyone?), but I can’t stand how beards normally look unkempt and dirty.

    Also, they hurt!

I am so NOT into the beard. I dated a guy with one for awhile and my chin and area around my mouth looked like they were sunburned non-stop. It was not a pretty sight.

I’m not a fan. Clean-shaven men are generally more my style.

I actually like the “havent shaved in a few days” stubble… as long as it isn’t always there! For me, keeping it clean shaven and then every once in a while having some stubble is sexy. A full beard or always have stubble, not so much.

It depends on the guy. The vast majority look best clean-shaven, and I’m generally more attracted to those who are… but a little stubble, a la George Clooney… mmmm, that’s nice.

Quitelight: Hmm :) I guess I’d really hate it too if it’s stubbly. I feel bad for men who have to shave :( Poor suckers.

Foxie: LOL!!!!!!! “What’s up girl? Wanna pet my beard?”

Alexandra: I hate the stubble idea, because it scratches my face, but a LITTLE bit grown out like a moss patch could be cute

bayjb: Ugh I do too. I hate the soul patch, goatees, long facial hair…

    LOL!!!

Brown and Red.. that’s ridiculous HAHAHAHAHA

k.rae: LOL not even to pet?
I hate the goatees that go down the jawline in a thin strip (landing strip for the face :P ) and end at the chin

Maria: I like a bit of a scruff too I think.

Hey awesome!!!!!!!!!!! There aren’t that many of us Canadian girlies out there blogging about PF :) Leanna of Apples and Telephones is one, and so is LeighAnn..

    Sharon Rose: LOL.. poor guys

Rubilalala: I think I agree, if it’s short stubble.

    Caught: LOL!! EWWW.. oww

Angela: Wow, men are totally losing the battle on this one

Financially broke: A bit of a scruff is fine, once it gets past that scrubble stage

Kimberly: Agreed, but some guys look better w/ a beard. Hides their flabby chin

Yeah, I’m not a fan of the beard. Had a bad-rubbed-raw experience with one and haven’t been back since. (especially since the rubbing was not around the face area and we will leave it at that…. Sorry TMI.)

My ex had facial hair when we first started dating. He gave me the go-ahead to decide whether it stayed or went. It went.

    I remain, respectfully,

My ex hated shaving – and he always had that “scruff” wanna be George Michael look but really looked like George from down the street look. HATED IT! Ugh – definitely prefer a clean shaven guy.

beards can be sexy and then there’s the feeling of omg-you-have-such-smooth-skin-underneath-that-beard-i-can’t-stop-touching-your-face when he finally decides to shave!

Lisa: OOOOOOOOO!!!… owwie. Yea, TMI, but good to know. I hate rubbed raw, but that’s only if the stubble is REALLY short and prickly.

Anon: LOL! “it went.” very nice.

Leah: LOL! Men who look like kenny rogers. nice.

Lys: Didn’t you want to just jump on him and save him?

Suzie: Oh that’s true. But the skin can be too rough too and irritated if they shave too often

Papa Bear has a bit of facial hair and I like him with it – he looks odd without it, to be honest!

Last Christmas he grew a full on beard and mustache – I have to secretly admit that it aged him dramatically and looked sorta ridiculous.

I absolutely LOVE stubble on a man. Think Sawyer from Lost. *yummy*

I normally prefer clean-shaven men, but stubble on the BF is pretty cute. I tease him for being “scruggly” but … it’s still kinda cute. Must be love! :P
