PSA = Public Service Announcement.
Have y’all flossed and brushed your teeth lately?
The purpose of both brushing and flossing is to reduce the number of bacteria which inhabit our mouths. Normally, millions of these microscopic monsters call your mouth home, feeding on food particles left on our teeth.
I should hope that you’ve at least BRUSHED, but flossing is something we totally can’t neglect.
Brushing without flossing is like washing only 65% of your body. The other 35% remains dirty!
Did you know that taking care of your teeth (something relatively simple and quite cheap) can lower your healthcare bills?
If you don’t floss, this can lead to bone loss, loose teeth, and teeth which fall out.
So you could save cash on dentistry AND protect your health – no bacteria to swim down your throat and make you sicky icky.
I floss at least every time I eat and brush (even at work), but AT LEAST try to floss once a day before sleeping, even if you don’t do it 3 times a day. Even after snacking, you should floss as well, but that might be too much work for everyone.. including me.
It only takes about 48-72 hours for the plaque to harden and then it’s a trip to the dentist, crying with blood and pain because they’re CHIPPING the plaque off your teeth with tools… EWWW
Think about it.

Not yet today, but a lot more lately. I’m rather proud of myself. The reason is kind of funny, though. You know how I’m trying to use up my large stash of personal care products? Yeah, that includes all the boxes of floss that I’ve picked up over the years (mostly from my dentist, ha ha).
I did finish off my toothpaste, though, since I use that regularly. So, then I decided to treat myself by trying something different. I started using Tom of Maine’s and have really liked it. My husband has come around to it, too. But since we’re almost done with that, I’m now trying out Eco-Dent tooth powder — and really liking it. Don’t know if my husband will like it, if he even tries it, but if he did that would be cool.

I’m some sort of freak because I LOVE brushing my teeth and flossing. I don’t know why, it just makes me disturbingly happy. I remember the day I got my braces off (for the second time) and I could freely brush my teeth again, unencumbered by all that wire. Best feeling in the world LOL.
Maybe there’s a reason that there are a lot of dentists in my family.

I have a permanent retainer, and it’s impossible to floss between those babies. I’ve only been able to find the flexifloss for them once, and now they’re gone. I’ve been making do by brushing my teeth thrice a day.
I wish this post came with a “graphic dentistry descriptions” warning though, lol. I mean, “chipping” the plaque off? Gross!
I remain, respectfully,

I just went to the dentist this week. Floss every day now, and brush twice.
It really makes a difference. Flossing stopped my gums from bleeding at the check-ups.
Ugh, some of those plaque scraping tools are scary!

I was a daily flosser before, but I’ve started flossing multiple times a day now that I’m pregnant. My dentist warned me to take extra good care of my teeth because my eating habits would change (snacking on crackers in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning!) and my gums could become more sensitive or easily irritated. I think I’ll continue once I have the baby, as well.
I’ve always been big on taking good care of my teeth to make dentist appointments easier and less traumatic.
They always compliment me on my teeth, so I’m quite happy to do the work to prevent bad dentist visits!

Meg: LOL!!! Talk about a silver lining in every cloud
It’s great that you’re using up the stash – I haven’t bought floss in a long time.
Sharon: Yes… please!!!
Frugal: That would make sense. I don’t really like flossing, but I like brushing to get that nice clean, slick feeling on my teeth – just like you, the day I got my braces off, I brushed constantly
Revanche: LOL!!! Good point.
Classy: Good!!!
Gabriella: I just make it a habit to run my tongue over my teeth to feel the grossness which makes me floss.
Anon: I have a permanent retainer too – but I thread the floss through my teeth in a gap to floss…
HHAHA.. sorry.. Should’ve put a graphic warning disclaimer. At least I didn’t put gross pics on there.
L@: I’m itching to go to the dentist again to get it all off
Marisol: Any time
indebt: I have floss at work, home, in my purse, in my bag and at BF’s. Although he’s a nut about flossing too.
Katelin: I just do it to save my health and gums!
Astarte: Ooo good point – great for pregnant ladies
I’m such a snacker too

[...] This got me thinking about preventative maintenance. I’ve no doubt I’ll need a lot of work done, even though my dental hygiene is better than that of most of the people I know (except for FB!). [...]
