I know “Tupperware” is really a brand name and not the actual product name, but it’s synonymous with what I’m trying to describe – plastic containers, that I’m just going to call them Starfrit Tupperware Containers. And much like “Kleenex” tissue papers. When I asked for a tissue paper the other day, I got the oddest stare, before she finally clued in that I wanted a Kleenex… It’s amazing how brands permeate our daily vocabulary, isn’t it?
Anyway, I’m here to tell you about how much I love my Starfrit containers. I was skeptical that ANY container would be able to keep closed, keep liquids and sauces in, and still be microwaveable, dishwasher-safe, and easy to clean.
Enter: STARFRIT LOCK & LOCK STORAGE CONTAINERS (TUPPERWARE)
I’ve been using these two containers for 2 years now, and not once has it broken, spilled, or gone into a sludgy, frustrating mess of food in the bottom of my laptop bag. I had previously gone through about 15-20 Tupperware containers – cheap ones, Ziploc ones, you name it, I tried it. But unless it was dry food, some liquid would invariably leak out and stain my laptop/papers.
With Starfrit, there are 4 locking mechanisms for each side (very simple to snap off and snap on, with no fear of them breaking), and there’s a rubber seal on the inside, lining the lid, to keep all the sauces and liquids in.
I’ve put them in the dishwasher once or twice, but I prefer scrubbing by hand because I like making sure all of the sauces get out of the nooks and crannies.
And if I’m eating a rather large meal (maybe a salad that I’m putting together from different things from my Starfrit containers), it also saves me on having to use disposable containers and Ziploc bags to put all the food together, and I just use a ceramic plate and a set of utensils at work to prepare my food upon and heat it up on. Then I just put them in the dishwasher at work when I’m done.
Probably the best buy in Tupperware containers I have ever purchased, and worth every penny. I’m considering buying another one, a larger, thinner one, that has compartments for different foods…. but right now, my 2 containers work for what I need them for.
As for dry foods, I put them in a Ziploc bag (like my cereal to snack on), but I reuse the bag until it rips or gets a hole in it.
Here’s a link to see the containers available, and I think they even have a video!!
